Tokyo Olympics – “Mirabai Chanu” Won Silver for India:
“Mirabai Chanu” is the only name you can hear all over India now, She has won the Silver medal in the Women’s 49kg weightlifting category at Tokyo International Forum and created a history. Mirabai Chanu had opened India’s medals tally on Saturday at Tokyo Olympics. Mirabai Chanu is from Nongpok Kakching, 44 kilometers away from Imphal, India.
The 26-year-old Mirabai Chanu managed to lift a total of 202kg, which includes 115kg in the clean and jerk category, and 87kg in the snatch category, during her
four successful attempts across the competition.
If we talk about the Gold Medal, China’s Zhihui Hou won the gold medal in the category, She also set a new Olympic record by lifting a total of 210kg. while Indonesia’s Windy Cantika Aisah bagged the bronze with a total of 194kg.
Mirabai Chanu became the second Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari by winning this monumental silver medal for India. When the weightlifting arena was opened to women for the first time Karnam Malleswari participated in the 2000 Sydney Games and won the bronze medal in the 69kg category.

Tokyo Olympics – Zhihui Hou to be tested by anti-doping authorities:
However, as per the latest updates from Tokyo Olympics, it is known that China weightlifter Zhihui Hou who won the gold on Saturday, will be tested by anti-doping authorities at the Olympic Games, if she fails the anti-doping test or if there is something suspicious found in the test, there is a high possibility that India’s Mirabai Chanu will be upgraded and awarded with gold.
As a standard protocol, The samples of all athletes who are competing are collected at the beginning of the Olympic Games. And also, the samples of all winners are again collected within one hour of winning a medal as a standard protocol. The rules of the Olympic Games clearly state, if an athlete fails the doping test, then the athlete who has won silver will be awarded the gold.

Tokyo Olympics – Mirabai Chanu can be upgraded with gold:
As per the reports from the ANI, The winners have been asked to stay in Tokyo until the anti-doping tests have been done. So there is still a chance that Mirabai Chanu could win a gold medal for India. If this happens then this will be India’s first gold in over 13 years after Abhinav Bindra who won a gold medal at Beijing Olympics 2008 in the Men’s 10m air rifle category.
